there is so much uncertainty in this current moment, from day to day, minute to minute. i have found that uncertainty is not, of course, new, but the presumption of certainty, because of the pandemic, has again shown us to be a ruse, useless for how we want to live and be in relation to one another. what i find blackness, blackqueerness, to be is the acceptance of uncertainty and making worlds and relations through such an acceptance, the acceptance of fragility and vulnerability as a way of life. so i’m thinking of heisenberg’s uncertainty principle, how you cannot know and thus measure (because a particle cannot have) position and velocity, even theoretically, simultaneously. the acceptance of uncertainty as the ground from which experimentation and surprise of quantum behavior emerges? it’s a call for a different epistemology. like blackness, like blackqueerness, beautiful.
